The Templar Banners were raised high up on the sky that day, and there was one banner for each outlying tower of the town and several were on top of the castle itself. It was a sight to behold, especially on a sunny day like it was on that day when the Lord Seeker Lambert had decided to take action against the Mages. The Lord Seeker, also called the Seeker of Shadows(and Mages, some say) had decided to gather his armies at Val Royeaux, capital of Orlais, jewel of the West. Lambert liked to think it was the fate; they were meant to gather there, they were meant to besiege Andoral's Reach, a mighty castle on the slopes of the Blasted Hills, which has stood unchallenged for many years, but not anymore. This time it would fall, and it would take the Mages with it to the depths. Never again shall they rise nor gain strength; after this final strike has been dealt, there is no continuation. It ends there; right at Andoral's reach, a place to be remembered for the bloodiest siege throughout the history of the mankind. I indeed admit that the battle will be bloody, very bloody for both sides, and that victory is yet unclear. We only need enough men!
That day many templars came to Val Royeaux to join the great army, the Grim Crusade which would end the war dramatically. Lambert hoped the defenders to make a last stand; it would make for a great story when the army will return back to Val Royeaux. As a large company of templar macemen flocked under a great banner at the main square of the city Lambert made his way out of the chill and shadowy palace where many nobles were gathered to discuss politics and war alike. Some of them had pledged to follow the Lord Seeker in his crusade against the Mages; the Lord of Val Royeaux himself had promised to send folk with the Lord Seeker: two of his adjutants and a battalion of elite soldiers under their command, clad in the finest equipment available in Orlais, and their headcount was almost five hundred. As Lambert made his leave from the palace, the two adjutants of the Lord of Val Royeaux joined him. They had good news: many had volunteered to come with them; and even more were coming daily to Val Royeaux. Mostly templars, of course, and although their numbers were in thousands daily, they needed more. This siege had to be perfect!
Supplies etc.
The Lord Seeker was a perfectionist; he never left anything uncovered, and there have never been any exceptions to that rule. Long before mustering his men he had made sure that there were enough supplies(and lyrium) in Val Royeaux to last for months, even for a year. The Lord Seeker had entered relations with the dwarves again, trading their lyrium for his gold, which the dwarves loved dearly. They loved everything made out of gold and silver; they made beautiful necklaces and other fair items with it, they gilded weapons with it and used it for their buildings. Especially they loved to gild their gates; and so it happened that almost every gate in the Dwarven Kingdom was gilded, and they were the most beautiful gates in the world. For gathering food and other supplies Lambert used rather different methods; while he negotiated with local merchants elsewhere, his goons raided the countryside for food under fake names somewhere else. This is how they gathered such a mighty culinary treasure.
