Drama between three
The Archdemon who begun the Fifth Blight was slain by the Grey Warden Aedan Cousland, who became the Hero of Ferelden. At the coronation of the new King and Queen he was granted Vigil's Keep as a base for his order and on the same day Aedan proposed to Leliana, one of his loyal companions, who gladly accepted.
Six months later, after Aedan's brother Fergus retook Highever from the Howes and while Leliana prepared a wedding, Aedan came to Vigil`s Keep in its most dire time of need. From there he rebuilt the order of Wardens within Ferelden and drove the remaining Darkspawn out of the land, killing the Brood Mother, but allowing The Architect to leave.
Soon after news of Morrigan, another woman he held dear and who had accompanied him during the Blight, was said to be spotted in the Frostback Mountains with a child. Aedan grew curious about the matter and he left with his dog to seek the truth, believing the child to be his as he before the final fight with the Archdemon had agreed to the ritual Morrigan had suggested to save his life. Aedan found Morrigan and the child with a little help, and with them he went through the Eluvian mirror, never to be seen again. What happened to Aedan none knows, but when the dog returned alone to his brother many feared the worst - that he had died one way or another.
Leliana and Fergus grieved Aedan's death, and as they grieved together love sprung between the two. After a while they married and together they ruled Highever as Teyrn and Teyrna, until Leliana received a letter from an old friend, the new White Divine, who asked her for aid. In haste Leliana left without a trace and as an agent of the White Divine she took the name Nightingale, serving as a close and loyal friend in the search of Hawke and the Warden.
Gone?
After becoming a Grey Warden, having spent some time in service at Vigil`s Keep, training the next generation of Mages, Anders was called in by the Circle of Magi to deliver a lecture on the nature of the Architect - much to the templars' dismay - he told the Commander of the Grey that his time with the Wardens was over and that he no longer wanted to be a part of it. Soon after the Chantry branded him an apostate, but never caught him. Rumors later told that he was seen on a pirate ship with a familiar woman, headed for Kirkwall.
Meanwhile, having fled the Blight Marian Hawke also travelled to Kirkwall, joined by her remaining family and their new friend Aveline after having lost both Bethany and Wesley to the Darkspawn. Thanks to their timely rescue by the witch Flemeth they had managed to escape, but Flemath's aid came at a cost - a promise to take an amulet to the Dalish outside of Kirkwall. There Hawke joined Merrill for a ritual which unleashed Flemeth once more on the world.
In the events to come, Hawke gained friends and fell in love with Anders while losing her brother Carver to the Taint in the Deep Roads. Hawke, however, still managed to distinguish herself by freeing Kirkwall from the Arishok's hostile takeover, becoming the city's champion and the favoured choice for new viscount after the death of not only the former ruler, but his son. Upon Hawke's refusal, though, Knight-Commander Meredith took command pver the city, ushering in a new era of terror for mages in the city as she placed it under martial law.
As tensions continued to rise between Hawke and Meredith tragedy struck once more in the form of Leandra Hawke's death at the hands of a mad blood mage. Some held her mother's death as proof of the dangers of magic left unchecked by the Chantry, but still Hawke chose to help Anders in his crusade against Chantry rule. This proved to be a mistake, however, when Hawke's assistance was revealed to be wrongly given - Anders had tricked his lover into finding him the ingredients to gaatlock, a Qunari explosive, which he used to destroy Kirkwall's Chantry and kill everyone inside in an attempt to free his fellow mages.
Anders' attack spurred the first battle in the war between templars and mages, and despite the wrongness of the battle's start Hawke sided with the mages. It was near the end of the battle that Meredith was revealed to be in the thrall of a lyrium idol, half mad and obsessed with power and hate. Her death could only be a good thing, but the damage was done - they were at war. With no choice but to flee, Hawke and her companions left Kirkwall to make their own way. Each left the Champion's company for their own reasons, but she and Anders remained at each other's sides. Anders could no longer be trusted, and Hawke intended to keep a close eye on him.
Difficult marriage
Once the fifth Blight ended, a new coronation was held in the palace of Denerim, where the Grey Warden Alistair, the bastard son of King Maric, was bound to marry the woman he disliked the most; Anora, the daughter of Loghain who had been branded a traitor of the realm after leaving the previous king, King Cailan on the battlefield.
Their marriage proved difficult, but for some reason they found in their heart to do what was best for the people. While Anora took care of the most needed attention, Alistair took the opportunity to get to know the people and he helped them the way he could, even his decisions made others angry.
With the authority granted to him, he gave the elves more rights and privileges, by making Shianni the Bann of the Alianage and by giving the Dalish Elves land in the Korcari wilds. However nice as it may have seemed, it only made things worse. As the elves started flocking to the Korcari Wilds, they soon discovered the land were unfruitful and tainted by the previous Blight. Not long after Shianni was murdered in an ally in Denerim, which caused the tension to rise between elves and humans once again. No further Bann was named for the Alianage after her death.
Years went and trouble rose with the neighboring Empire of Orlais and many thought there to be another war between the two countries. Thus to gain alliances and help, in case of an attack Alistair went to travel with Teagan across the sea, and such was it that he met Hawke in Kirkwall, granting an audience before leaving shortly after to travel further. Some claim Alistair did not go to seek alliances, but to rather meet secretly with the Empress of Orlais, whom he over time was said to have received letters from, much in the same way Celene and King Cailan had done before the Blight.
Three years after the events in Kirkwall and the beginning of the Mage-Templar War, Orlais found itself on the brink of civil war and out of kindness, Alistair promised to protect Celene from harm, thus taking her in as she became an exile while her cousin Gespard de Chalons took power from her. Some claimed she died or was captured in the siege of Val Royeaux, but the truth was that she had found protection and love in Alistair, living in the hidden within Denerim.
As the rumours begun to swirl in Denerim that the king was hiding the Empress, Anora became annoyed and frustrated, fearing that Alistair would do something stupid, as in causing more tension between the people or worse; such as removing her from the throne.
