Gear: She has three weapons on her, all daggers. However, one of the three is rarely seen. Two of the weapons she has are ordinary daggers made out of grey-iron. The third weapon is full of sentimental value. It is inscribed with the words 'Hopefully you never must use this' and is made out of silverite.
Outside of a situation where she knows combat is going to occur, it's difficult to peg her as an assassin due to her clothing. When she knows she isn't going to conduct in combat, she wears a simple white dress that reaches to halfway between her knees and her ankles, with a neckline closer to the neck than most dresses. While preparing for a combat situation, however, she will wear a full set of armor made out of hardened leather material. This includes leggings, the tunic, boots, gloves, and a cap, though sometimes she goes without the cap. In either case, no matter what she is wearing, she will also have on a whistle around her neck, inscribed with the words 'To my little girl'.
She always has on her a pack full of, in her mind, essential things. These essential things include things needed for survival, such as materials to light fire, some food that lasts long but can be cooked in a hurry, a blanket and pillow since she doesn't mind sleeping on the ground, and quite a bit of money as well, to cover travel expenses. In the pack are also a few health poultices.
CHARACTERISTICS
Appearance: The most striking thing about her is just how small her features are. From her dark brown eyes to just her in general, she's small. Her hair isn't uncommon, though its color, dark brown, can easily be seen as black in the right light, but she wears it rather messily, preferring not to attend to it that much. Her hair falls just a little bit past her neck when she's keeping it short, though at times it has gone longer, when she's travelling an excessive amount and can't cut it. In those cases she tries to take care of it some more, and it easily goes past her shoulders. Her skin color is relatively normal, what one would call average. The only remarkable thing about her is just how small she is, which belies just how strong she is as well.
Personality: Alia is extremely dedicated to her job, that of an assassin, so dedicated to the point that one might call her obsessed. When tracking down a target, it will be common to see her ignore anyone she views as a distraction, such as any friends she might know. Her attitude overall is that of an extremely serious girl who is quite withdrawn, rarely offering her trust to people due to an incident when she didn't verify that the people she assassinated were, in her mind, bad.
She doesn't just accept any old job, she only accepts jobs that are meant to eliminate people she sees as bad, such as other assassins or murderers or anyone who's committed a serious crime. Even those indirectly responsible for a death, such as someone who paid an assassin to kill someone, she sees as evil. She realizes this is hypocritical, as she views other assassins as evil, and indeed, were one to converse with her at length, they would discover that she feels she is evil as well, and that the best thing she can do for the world is make it a bit brighter.
After the incident that broke the little trust she gave to people occurred, she tends to track people down now, and verify they are who the person who hired her says they are, evil at their core. There have even been times when she's turned on her employer for attempting to hire her to kill those she deems innocent. Deep inside, she's began to question herself and everything she does, and she's began to think about what it might be like to be a merchant. If one tried, they might even be able to break through the hard exterior she breaks up and actually talk to the scared girl underneath it all, the girl who sees evil as being everywhere in the world. The girl that feels that with every death she causes, two more evil people rise to take the place of the one she just killed.
More mundane things about her include things such as her likes. These include things like singing. She doesn't really do it much, but when she gets a chance to, it helps to calm her down and let her collect herself; in addition to that, it doesn't hurt that her singing is much better than one would expect. She also loves sweets, though she tries her best to let no one know this, as well as expensive things, which is, again, a fact she tries to let no one know.
HISTORY
Alia was born in the year 9:10, and growing up, the girl was coddled, and quite a bit at that. She was pampered and practically given everything she asked for, owing to the fact that her mother and father were both merchants. Years earlier, they had been no-names, not making much money at all, but around the time she was born, they really began to prosper and get bigger and bigger, drawing the eye of quite a few of the other merchants that were worried her family's business might one day rival their own. She was never concerned about this, or told of the worries her mother and father faced.
The girl was given an extremely good education, though she never went far from the sides of her mother and father, growing quite dependent on them, too much some might say. As a girl, she was relatively friendly, though she made few friends due to the fact that she didn't venture outside all that much. Besides that, the majority of the children she knew were not as well off as her family was, and her mother and father didn't wish for her to interact with them. This idyllic life might have continued, she might even have taken over her family's business, as she had a good head for numbers, had her family not continued to get bigger and bigger when it came to the business.
It got to the point that assassins were hired, albeit not very professional ones seeing as how they were tracked down easily by Alia later. The assassins killed her parents one day while she was out at the house of one of her few friends. Despite not having many, her parents encouraged her to make at least some, and over the past while she had been strengthening the friendship she had with this other girl. She was meant to have died alongside her parents, but hadn't as her decision had been a spur of the moment one to go out and just talk with her friend. It was dark by the time it came for her to leave, and the parents of her friend didn't want her wandering the streets at night.
So it was that, early in the morning, she left her friend's house and returned home. The scene of her mother and father dead...numbed her. Her first instinct was just to bolt, and run forever, but there was a key on the ground near the hand of her mother. Alia knew this key well, for her parents had always said it would open the small little box in their bedroom, and that the box would be opened when she was older. Her terror at a high, in addition to her curiosity, the girl opened the box mostly for one reason. She knew that the authorities were sure to search the place everywhere, and just take the box, and...it was meant for her.
In this box she found the dagger and the whistle, and with those two things in hand she just ran as far away as she could. It was hours before she realized she had somehow gotten herself lost in the city of Cumberland; not a difficult feat, as it was so huge. She wandered for even more hours still before it became dark and she found herself in an alley. In this alley she decided to hide from, well, everyone, because quite simply she was scared and didn't know what to do, as her parents had been her guide through her life. The next day she resolved to try and track down those that had killed her parents; she still had some money left, most of it taken when she had arrived home the previous night, and began her search near her old house, making sure to stay out of sight of the authorities.
It took months, three at the least, and quite a bit of bribery, but just by asking about people that had been seen near her house, she managed to track down one of the assassins, a female by the name of Mavre, though at the time she didn't know she was one of the assassins. Mavre, for her part, had no idea this was the very same girl that was supposed to have been at the house, owing to a lack of actual description by the client. Mavre chose to reveal to Alia the location of the assassins, and would have left it at that, but as Alia left, Mavre followed after her. She chose to reveal the location because of the fact that she felt the ones that had hired her to kill the entire family months ago would take action against her and the other assassins.
The assassins were in an alley, drunk and talking about the easy kill they had performed months ago on her parents.. Later, she knew it was stupid, but she charged at them with the dagger she had been left. Despite the apparent ineptitude of the assassins, as they couldn't even keep quiet about the murders, they were still more than a match for her, and they probably would have killed her too had it not been for the assassin following her. She had been having doubts about her life, and seeing her fellows about to try and actually kill a child stirred something in her, a sense of regret.
That was why Mavre had tried to follow Alia, to stop her, but she had taken her time to deliberate on whether it was a good idea to risk her career to save the life of a child. It was thanks to this hesitation that Alia had even managed to find the assassins before Mavre caught up to her. So, while Alia was heavily injured, she still survived thanks to Mavre saving her, and once Alia awoke, Mavre decided to take care of the girl. After all, if she just turned her out onto the streets again, she felt Alia would just end up dead anyway, that she wouldn't survive, and then what would have been the point of her saving Alia?
Alia felt she had seen evil in the world, and wanted to make it a better place. So, four years after the day she was saved, when she was ten, she begged Mavre to teach her how to kill, because she wanted to make the world a brighter place where bad things didn't have to happen to others, like they happened to her. Mavre, rather reluctantly, agreed, partly because Alia would not stop asking. It was years, many in fact, before she actually was allowed to attempt an assassination, and during those years, Alia saw this woman as a mother-like figure. At the age of 17, 11 years after the death of her parents, and in the year 9:27, Alia made her first kill as an assassin, killing a murderer in Cumberland, albeit with the help of the female assassin. For the next three years the pair worked together, but eventually Alia began to take solo jobs, and soon Alia began to take solo jobs, though still in Nevarra. By the time of the supposed Blight, in 9:30, she was 20. It was the first time she got a job out of the country, and she decided to take it despite the rumors of the Blight.
One hadn't been seen in many years, and so many darkspawn had died in the last. After a tearful farewell, Alia left Mavre and journeyed to Ferelden. She spent a while tracking her target down, and it took time, but eventually she came to Denerim. There, before she could track her target down even more, was when the darkspawn horde descended upon Denerim. At first, she was in the market district, about to kill her target and return to Nevarra, but when the darkspawn broke through, she retreated. They kept coming and coming, and eventually she did what she had to and hid under one of the many pieces of rubble in the area. It was...horrid, especially since she saw so much death, and in fact had to force herself to hide next to a corpse under the rubble in order to survive. She started questioning her path here, and she stayed in Denerim as she wondered if the path of an assassin was the best for her, even as she continued to take assassination jobs.
Her faith in her job was even further shattered when one of the jobs she took ended up with her slaughtering an innocent. It went by her standard procedure, which she feels was stupid now, of trusting the one who gave her the job, trusting that the one she was targeting was evil. She killed the man without verifying, and later, when she learned the truth, she tracked down the one that had hired her for the assassination, but ultimately failed to find them. This changed how she did things, and now she verifies before she kills.

Another kill...honestly, she was not sure this was the life for her anymore. Not after the battle of Denerim. Yes, the battle had been years ago, 5 in fact, when she was only 25, but it still haunted her mind. Burning corpses, the darkspawn never stopping...she was lucky to have hid. She never would have survived. Almost unwillingly, flashbacks began to crawl through her mind, but she forced them down. Not right then, not when she was on a job. This was important, the work she was to do. These men were evil, as was she; those she killed were past redemption, and so was she. Besides that...the job was almost done. Better to focus on it and get it done, then wallow later
The only thing between herself and her target was a door, and no one was around now. This man had sent his servants away. He was some wealthy man or some such, but he wasn't particularly notable. He only had servants for show. And it was dark too, which was an advantage...any moment now, he would be going to sleep. She listened, and listened some more, standing behind one of the curtains on the wall, also put up for show. It felt like ages, when in reality it was a few minutes, before she heard him settle onto his bed. Stealthily, very much so, and using all her skill, the girl stole into his room, making sure to make no noise. Then she sneaked over to the bed, and before anything could be shouted, plunged a dagger into his heart while at the same time covering his throat to stop any screams. He thrashed some, and then laid still.
Another kill...another stain on me she told herself. The girl always told herself this was for the greater good, to stop others from suffering like she, but that was a lie, she knew it. She was evil like them. With the deed done, she left via the nearby window. It was a bit of a drop, but she knew she could survive it; she had dropped from higher heights before. Once outside, it was easy to escape, she had already planned out her escape route days in advance.
