Description: A respected Orzammar warrior until he fell in love with a casteless woman, Vengest left for the surface with her to make a life together. With few marketable skills besides combat, he turned to a life of piracy to provide for them both. It was a lonely life with him so often at sea, and after one voyage he returned home to find her gone, a goodbye note in her place. Having given up his caste to live on the surface and lost the woman in his life, all that was left for him was his life at sea.
Ackley - Sailing Master

Description: Running away from his home in Amaranthine at the age of twelve to escape an abusive family, he signed on with the Ferelden Navy as a cabin boy and slowly worked his was up the ranks. Through the course of his career in the navy he walked a fine line, his merits as a sailor constantly weighed against his flaws as a soldier, until he was finally discharged for repeated acts of insubordination not long before the disaster at Ostagar. During the ensuing civil war he lost his leg, ending all hope of making a living on land. Once the Blight was defeated he looked to the pirates for employment, his skills as a sailor unhampered by his wooden leg.

Description: A pirate's bastard raised on land by his mother, he ran away to join his father's crew when he was still very young. His father was Captain Mathias Dacosta's sailing master, and when the captain brought baby Mariana aboard she quickly became his special pet. After the ship was sunk he did his best to make a living on land, but when he learned his old friend Mariana was looking for a crew he was among the first to sign on.

Description: As a Tevinter slave, he spent most of his adult life in chains, beaten and bloody as a rower aboard a Tevinter galley. His will was long broken when Captain Mathias Dacosta attacked and defeated the galley to which he was tied, freeing the slaves. Most of the newly free men took flight when they next made port, but the captain's rescue had earned his loyalty and gratitude. After the ship was sunk, he immediately set to looking for the captain's daughter in the hopes of helping her get a ship of her own.
Acteon - Carpenter

Description: A simple Tevinter carpenter with a simple Tevinter life, he took to gambling to increase his means. It was a dangerous road to take, however, and he found that he couldn't stop however much he won or lost. He fell deep into debt, losing his wife and children to his gambling addiction when they could no longer stand the depths he had sunk to. With his family gone and the wolves at the door, he took to a life at sea to escape his debtors.

Description: Living an unremarkable life for an Orlesian elf did little to prepare Lisette for a life at sea, but when her master fell out of favour everyone in his employ was forced to make drastic changes to their lifestyles. With her only options being to find another master - one who was potentially cruel - or engaging in illicit activities to help a master who had always been kind, she chose to remain loyal. Without proper training, however, it was only a matter of time before she was caught and had to run. Lacking the skills to remain hidden on land she took to the sea and few marketable skills, she signed on with a pirate crew as a cook.
