Fenris strode across the rough paths of Kirkwall, ignoring the curious glances he received from the nearby merchants. They were always so suspicious when he walked by, their eyes lingering on his lyrium tattoos and bare feet. Humans were the most common race in Kirkwall; it wasn’t often that you’d see an odd looking, lanky elf holding a greatsword running around. It wasn’t a surprise that the former slave stood out from the rest, and it was only natural that people would want a look.
The elf’s pace increased, anxious to find Isabela. They had agreed to travel to The Tevinter Imperium, seeking information about their past. It had been years since Fenris had heard a word about Danarius or his past, so naturally he became curious. Perhaps it wasn’t the smartest idea to travel to a land where he was once a slave, but in his eyes, it was worth the risk. He had been stuck in Kirkwall for years, which caused him to develop quite the thirst for action. He wanted an adventure, and this way seemed like the perfect way to do it.
With each step he took, the more doubtful he became. Would it be smart to just walk into the mage-controlled lands of Tevinter? There would surely be danger lurking around behind every corner. There was also a chance he would learn something about his past that he didn’t want to find out. He had fled from Tevinter so long ago, yet now he was heading straight back into it. Perhaps it would just be better to stay in Kirkwall a few more years…
Even though he was thinking it, Fenris knew he couldn’t stay in the rat-infested city any longer. He was tired of feeling restless and useless for so long. Perhaps it wasn’t the greatest idea, but he couldn’t think of another option. He would have to head to Tevinter with his former companion, seeking adventure and answers in the world. It was really the only way he could get out of the city without roaming the Free Marches.
With a sudden stop, Fenris glanced around, recognizing the entrance to The Hanged Man. He knew Isabela would be around the tavern somewhere, yet he couldn’t see even a sign of her…

ooc: I was thinking about just posting a few intro threads with our characters in Kirkwall, then fade out/in to Tevinter. Would that work?

Isabela sat in the Hanged Man pounding down her last few drinks and chatting away with a waitress. The girl she spoke to was a pretty one and seemed to be as sick of the men in this tavern as she was. Isabela could take advantage of this situation and have a little fun with the young kitten, but Fenris was waiting for her. She had agreed to take Fenris to The Tevinter Imperium to search for more signs of his past. This was the best option for Isabela because she needed somewhere to go, and Fenris gave it to her. The men, the booze, and even the air grew stale from staying stagnant in one place. Life was much like water....flowing kept things fresh.
Isabela had craved the sea for many years now. All she could think about was the beautiful form of a ship. Her spine tingled at the idea of sailing to a place like Tevinter. She had been stuck in Kirkwall for way to long now and had an itch only open seas and new beginnings could scratch. She hadn't really thought about Fenris as a possible companion, but she was relieved to have someone with her who she had already experienced danger alongside.
She took the last of her long line of drinks and started to feel the effect. Her head was woozy and her mood was fantastic. Of course she was sure Fenris would look down on her playtime and wonder why she wasn't preparing in a more appropriate manner, but it was time for adventure , not for plans. She left a tip on the counter and gave the cute little waitress a peck on the cheek. She said her goodbyes and stumbled out the door.
The door swung open with a mighty thud. Isabela stepped out ready to go. She had her daggers by her side, gold in her pocket, and booze on her lips. Now all that was left was Fenris, and this ship was sailing!

ooc: I would love that! We can have Isabela and Fenris banter for a bit and then head on their way!

For quite a while Fenris simply paced the surrounding area, always returning back to the tavern’s entrance, anxious to find Isabela. He wasn’t too keen on going inside and looking for her, yet he was almost considering after the long wait. Yet, just as he had expected, Isabela did finally show up at the scene. She came stumbling out of the tavern, slightly unsteady on her feet. It was almost as if she wasn’t taking the adventure seriously. Or, perhaps Fenris was just thinking into it too much. Isabela was known for her constant drinking and flirting, so it wasn’t a surprise that she’d want one last visit to The Hanged Man. It really was an interesting way to prepare for a long journey, he could give her that much.
“Isabela.”
He announced his presence from the shadows, taking a step forward toward his former companion. If he hadn’t, he figured she would have just walked on by, oblivious to him. Blending in was a skill he proudly possessed, although it didn’t work as well near the eagle-eyed merchants. They were always on alert for potential thieves, and he, an elf, especially stood out to them. Humans around Kirkwall were always so suspicious to those outside their race.
“Interesting way to prepare for a journey,” Fenris observed with a slight smirk. He tried to hide his restlessness and anxiety behind his words, when above all he wanted out of the city as quickly as possible. He didn’t have the patience for conversation and would much rather wait until they were on board and sailing for Tevinter. But, he figured Isabela didn’t quite share these same thoughts as him, so he tried to remain patient. She was the one with the ship, after all. If he had a choice, he would have left Kirkwall ages ago.

Isabela got her bearings for a second and set out to search for Fenris. She was about to stumble away when she heard her name spoken sternly from nearby. "Isabela” she noted from the shadows. As she turned she saw Fenris step toward her. She figured he would be looking for her sometime soon. Fenris was in a hurry to get out of Kirkwall, not that Isabela wasn’t, but it seemed like Fenris had been itching to exit these walls just as quick as he entered them.
“Interesting way to prepare for a journey,” he said with a small grin. He didn’t seem angry, which was great news for Isabela. She did not want to start a journey with bickering or scolding. Not that Fenris was necessarily the type. He always seemed more righteous than whiny to her. They both wanted people to be free at all cost, and that’s why they could get along with a kind of ease.
Fenris! You didn't think I couldn’t leave this place without saying goodbye to the Hanged Man, now did you! As a matter of fact you should have came in and joined me!” She knew it was a useless effort to try and get Fenris in a place like the Hanged Man, but weirder things had happened. At the least Isabela had to tease the boy a little before they left. Fenris was a good guy, but tended to be a stickler for fun, in Isabela’s book anyway. She understood that not everyone was like her though, and just liked giving him some shit before they hit the road.
Come on!! I’m not too drunk yet!!” she teased with a sly smile across her face. Although she was excited to head out, Isabela was never opposed to having fun before a journey.

“Fenris! You didn't think I couldn’t leave this place without saying goodbye to the Hanged Man, now did you! As a matter of fact you should have came in and joined me!”
It was the typical Isabela, just as Fenris had remembered her. She hadn’t changed at all since he had last traveled with her. She was always the one hanging out in the tavern with the drunkards, enjoying the trouble she got into. Besides her pro-mage views in the war, she always was easy to get along with. In fact, she was probably one of the most bearable companions in the old gang, other than Varric.
“I’m afraid I don’t find the lingering smell of rats and sour ale enticing like you do, Isabela.” Fenris replied, hiding his amusement. The smell in the tavern really was overwhelming. It amazed him that she could even stand being in there, especially for such long periods of time. After all, Isabela practically lived in The Hanged Man.
“Come on! I’m not too drunk yet!”
Another comment that was expected from Isabela. She could be amusing at times, and normally Fenris might play along. Although, this wasn’t such a great time for it. The elf wanted to get moving, not loiter around the old tavern with a pirate. He was so anxious and curious about the road ahead, as he’d never traveled on a ship before, at least not from what he could remember. From Isabela’s many stories, it was an amazing, exhilarating experience full of adventure. But, she did tend to exaggerate things…
“Ah, I don’t know about that. You are pretty unsteady on your feet,” Fenris replied, still trying to hide his restlessness. He almost started to pace, before stopping himself. Kirkwall really did feel like a prison, and it would be such a refreshment to get out of it.
“So, I’m travelling to Tevinter with a drunken pirate in charge of a ship. This’ll be interesting,” the elf added, humour in his voice. Although, he was barely registering their conversation, as his thoughts were all about the open sea and the lands beyond Kirkwall.

"I’m afraid I don’t find the lingering smell of rats and sour ale enticing like you do, Isabela.”[/i]
Ahhh...the Fenris sense of humor! That was just one of the things Isabela loved about him. He usually had a problem with things, but could always come up with a painfully obvious reason why he should. It was so funny to her that he would point out these observations and that she had never even thought about them before he spoke. With Fenris around Isabela had a clear head, or at least clearer than it usually was.
“Ah, I don’t know about that. You are pretty unsteady on your feet. So, I’m traveling to Tevinter with a drunken pirate in charge of a ship. This’ll be interesting"[/i]
Isabela let out a loud laugh. "Fenris! My little wolf! When have I ever let you down? As a matter of fact when have I ever been useless when drunk? We will be in Tevinter before you know it so don't be so damn impatient" She wasn't offended by his comments. It was obvious that Fenris wanted to leave this place badly. He hid it well, but Isabela had traveled with him long enough to know that when he wanted to get something done, it would get done swiftly. Fenris knew the difference between fun and business and this was a business trip. It was depressing for Isabela to admit that, but this was not going to be a leisure cruise. They were headed somewhere dangerous for both of them and neither of them knew what would happen. They should be nervous. They should have a plan or at least more companions. They did not have any of this. Isabela didn't know about Fenris, but she was excited even with the adversity they were faced with. There were so many opportunities at hand. This was going to be a journey, business or not, that neither of them would forget. It was possible that it could turn into a scar instead of a precious memory, but Isabela could just add it to her list.
Isabela checked her gear and got ready to head out. Everything was in order and now it was time to proceed to the boat. Isabela started walking, "You better get moving or I'll leave you behind!" she said ironically. Fenris could take her teasing so she never felt less than herself. They were both opinionated, but they could usually agree to disagree.
Isabela got to the docks and she could smell the water. She was so excited she could barely contain herself anymore. She wondered if Fenris would appreciate the open sea as much as she did. She turned to him, "Are you ready for this?"
