CHARACTERISTICS

Appearance: The first things you may notice when meeting Nethres is his unusual height as en elf, standing almost at the same height like an average human and the second thing you may notice is his white hair which is as white as snow. Normally an elf is not born with white hair, but gains it either by growing old or by stress, in this case stress because of the various situations he has been in. Other than those things he is a strong and an agile elf, capable of killing a man twice his size. All over his body you may see the scars inflicted by those he has fought, or the burned stripes on his skin that was caused by the hot iron the slavers tortured him with. At his neck, close to his jaw a large burned wound of flesh can be seen, unless he hides it beneath his scarf which he always carry on him.

HISTORY

Ralath, the father to Nethras and Adanna was a city elf who had embraced the life as a criminal. During his years in Highever, he fell in love with a female elf named Maram who lived in the Alianage. She was close to reaching her adulthood at that time and her parents wanted to marry her off to another elven family as they hoped to gain better wealth, but once Ralath approached Maram with his charm she was forever lost to him. In the hidden they shared a bond which none other understood and Ralath made Maram pregnant. When her parents and her betrothed found out, the prearranged marriage was annulled and Maram`s father refused to look upon her as his daughter from that moment on, whereas her mother only wanted her daughter to be happy.

Torn apart from the family, Maram stayed with Ralath and left to live in Amarathine, and there she gave birth to the elven twins Nethras and Adanna during the famous storm that ravaged the city twenty-seven years ago. Nethras was the firstborn and shortly after followed his sister Adanna, together they grew up along with their mother and father, and they survived by the stolen goods Ralath took from others. It was not before Nethras turned three years old that they discovered Adanna had the ability to wield magic, but instead of giving her away to the Templars they kept her hidden and such whenever they were close to being exposed they traveled to a new city.

Nethras grew up hearing stories about the Dalish Elves who lived in the woods and he became fascinated in them, but he did not understand why the City Elves choose to live in the poor conditions the humans provided if they could all be free. The explanation he often received was that the Dalish Elves were savage and dangerous and that a City elf would never have survived the way they did, yet Nethras had a hard time believing that as he had heard many different tales.

Wherever they went the story was the same; Adanna would stay at a shelter with her mother as Nethras would learn by his father on how to steal from others. The coin which they got from what they stole gave them the food they needed, but as soon it became dangerous or difficult they left to live somewhere else. Nethras learned how to lock pick doors, how to sneak in the shadows and how he could take a purse from a human without drawing attention, but he also learned what power a weapon could give. At first Nethras disliked the violent behavior of his father when things went bad, although after a while Nethras learned to be the same, knowing that only the strongest could survive.

As Nethras and Adanna was close to reaching their year of adulthood the fifth Blight broke out in Ferelden and their family was forced to flee like all others. Normally a city elf would have married at their age, but due to their situation it was looked upon as dangerous to involve others in their secret affairs, and nor did Nethras want to marry as he sought no need for it.

After the Blight ended, Ferelden fell into a state of poor conditions; many villages had fallen, many farmers’ crops had been ruined and people had been killed. At this time Nethras and his family found themselves traveling on the road, in search for a new place to live. On the road between the village of Vintiver and Denerim they were attacked by a group of bandits and as they tried to protect themselves, Nethras father Ralath was killed mercilessly. In rage Nethras avanged his fallen father and killed the bandits with the weapons they had with them. After the burial of Ralath, Nethras promised himself to protect the family at all cost and to do his best to provide them with food and coin.

Once they reached the Alienage of Denerim, he continued the life as a criminal, but seven years after the Blight worse things happened. The Mage-Templar war had begun and they increased their search for mages all over the world, which included that the Templars searched the many Alianage`s that existed, and as they did Adanna was discovered. Nethras wanted to stay and fight the Templars, but his mother told him to leave Denerim and to take his sister far away from the humans as possible. Thus she bided them farewell and died to let her children escape.

Fleeing Denerim in a hurry, Nethras lead his twin sister Adanna to the Dalish Elves. There they learned that they were not as dangerous as others had told them they would be, and among them they stayed, hoping one day to become a part of the Alvar Clan. Nethras and Adanna learned the way of the bow and they learned how to survive, but before they could get initiated a hunt needed to happen.

A few months had passed when Nethras and Adanna were hunting in the forest and there they suddenly encountered a group of slavers. The slavers grabbed the elves and Nethras was forced to watch his sister being raped by the five men who wanted to be inside her, while he himself was tortured with a hot iron. Trying to fight back he angered the man who tortured him and as a reward Nethras was stabbed with the hot iron and was left abandoned in the dirt to rot. After the grim events, Nethras awoke from unconsciousness in the camp of the Dalish Elves and with the support of friends he left to seek out his sister who had been taken.

Well, I suppose this one isn't so terrible if he was hiding his sister from the templars. But trying to track and kill a large animal after only a month of training? Tis either hubris or foolishness, though I suppose that he is looking for the woman is something.
