It had been a long journey for Ky. Not only had she never been out of Orlais, but she had never even been out of the palace. Celene had tried to educate her somewhat while they were growing up, but Ky was a servant and learning her duties always came first. Her education was limited to dancing, manners, small portions of history, and combat. Luckily she had learned enough about maps and direction to slowly find her way to Ferelden.
When she finally arrived in Denerim she was shocked to say the least. Ky had expected the world to be more fabulous. Call it her Orleisan upbringing, but she imagined a city to be a grand spectacle and more colorful. Everything seemed to be grey here. She knew it was not all grey in a literal manner, but compared to what she was used to, Fereldan lacked color. She felt that every building was the same and every area ran into each other like a never ending maze. Her head began to spin and she felt dizzy. Maybe this was a terrible idea she thought to herself as she tried to straighten her head. Everything seemed to have an earthy smell that mixed with that of wet dog and Ky thought she was going to be sick. She missed the sweet scents of baked goods and perfume. She felt an overwhelming sense of homesickness and then she thought about Celene. The pain her heart felt at that moment was far worse than the stench of Denerim. Why had Celene left Ky all alone? This question plagued her mind and weighed her heart down by tons as she stood alone in the middle of the city. Ky felt an uncontrollable urge to cry, but forced back tears as she had been trained to do while growing up. Crying now would just upset my Empress she told herself. That is how she kept herself from becoming too emotional. She would just think about the Empresses best interest and immediately become sedated. It probably wasn’t a healthy choice of emotional output, but Ky was not concerned with her health. Now it was time to continue her search. Her emotions had subsided and Ky new what she needed to do. Celene was out there somewhere with no one by her side. Ky needed to make sure she was safe and no one else could do that as well. She was sure that Celene had found some sort of companions by now, because Celene was a resourceful person, but Ky knew they would not be as trustworthy as she was. The only thing she could do now was wonder the city day in and day out until she found some sort of sign…..

Alistair was gone now, and Celene was beginning to feel lonely. Here in Ferelden she had no one that she trusted. Her heart yearned for home, for the people who cared about her. In truth she missed her beloved Ky. It was true that Ky was her servant, but Ky had always been more than that. She had been a playmate, a teacher, a trusted confidant, and the closest thing Celene had ever known as a friend. Living as royalty didn’t offer one many companions but Celene had always been able to count of Ky. The elf had taught her to shoot a bow and to use a dagger, skills that had helped her greatly since leaving her lands. The afternoon was a warm one, and Celene had left the palace in Denerim to walk through the market. She needed to bustle of the streets to keep her mind off of everything.
She wore her peasant garb, a simple dress of tan cloth with a dark blue cape. The hood on the cape shadowed her face and hid her dark hair that she had pulled back simply. No one would see her face, and she was able to hide in plain sight. As she walked she reminiscing thinking of days gone by. Oddly enough people in the market seemed to be staring at something as it moved through the square. Pale blue eyes roamed over to spot to see an elf dressed rather oddly. She looked absolutely ridiculous, but Celene would have known that beautiful face anywhere.
Quickly she rushed over and grabbed the woman’s hand and dragged her into an alley. She knew Ky well enough that she wouldn’t be able to react quickly in this situation. Once they were away she tilted her face down so that her friend could see her face. ”Ky, I don’t know how you came to be here but you mustn’t say my name out loud. Keep your voice down and we shall talk” Once those words were out she hugged her servant, pulling her close. She had missed the elf terribly and she was feeling rather choked with her happiness.
”How did you find me? What are you doing here? Ky I left you to keep you safe, you were never supposed to come here. Don’t you know the Grand Duke wants my head on a platter?” Although she was upset she couldn’t keep the happiness from her voice. Celene had thought she would never see Ky again and here she was. Her eyes roamed over the elf’s clothing and she laughed softly. ”Dear Ky, once we leave here we will get you some proper clothing, you shall draw far too much attention in that”
Celene smiled softly, and pulled her hood a little farther over her face, the Duke had made one attempt on her life recently and she wasn’t trying to court another. She needed to remain hidden at all costs, and keep herself out of trouble. Alistair was no longer here to keep her face. She was on her own, though now she knew that Ky would be by her side through all of this and the thought comforted her greatly.

As Ky was standing there, someone in a blue cape came over and grabbed her hand. They began to whisk her away and Ky had no idea what to do. Her instincts made her want to scream and start beating this person to death, but her mind told her to hold on. Ky was new around here and knew nothing of what was going on. Causing a scene would most likely get her in a lot of trouble and Celene wouldn't want to deal with that.
The person dragged Ky into an alley, and as soon as Ky looked up to see who it was, she was paralyzed in shock. She saw smooth pale skin and gorgeous blue eyes above her. There was no doubt in her mind that this was her Celene.
”Ky, I don’t know how you came to be here but you mustn’t say my name out loud. Keep your voice down and we shall talk”[/b]
Celene spoke this just as Ky had almost blurted out her name in excitement. Celene pulled her close and the little elf had to hold her breath to choke back tears. She held on to Celene as if she let go, the Empress would float away.
”How did you find me? What are you doing here? Ky I left you to keep you safe, you were never supposed to come here. Don’t you know the Grand Duke wants my head on a platter?”[/b]
Ky was shocked! She never paid attention to politics and had no idea what was going on in the kingdom. "But Empress...you said nothing to me. I didn't know...I missed you", Ky spurted out her broken words through an attempted whisper. She had felt so lonely and betrayed she had not even thought about why Celene had left her. As a matter of fact, she hadn't even thought to ask anybody what was going on. She felt ashamed of herself and her lack of understanding. "I'm sorry miss. I did not mean to make things more complicated for you." She expressed with her head down in shame.
”Dear Ky, once we leave here we will get you some proper clothing, you shall draw far too much attention in that”[/b]
Ky heard the Empress laugh softly and she looked down at herself. Ky was rather found of the outfit she put together. Minus the lack of fit, since it was human clothing, Ky had thought she looked elegant in her beautiful jewelry and ruffled clothes. The men's slacks she wore with suspenders to keep them up may have stretched the line a little, but Ky thought it hadn't been a bad touch. "My clothes miss? But...I look elegant like you, no?" Ky questioned, feeling confused at what she had done wrong. Either way it was her Empresses choice and Ky was just glad to be by her side. She hoped with all her heart that Celene would not send her back to Orlais, especially with the recent news.

As Ky clung to her Celene couldn’t help but smile. The poor thing clung to her like she was the sun, the moon, and the stars. The look of shock reminded Celene that she hadn’t told Ky to stay, but she hadn’t had the time to explain anything to the poor elf. "But Empress...you said nothing to me. I didn't know...I missed you" Her head nodded softly, she now realized her error. ”I’m sorry I couldn’t say anything, there wasn’t any time. I had to leave immediately, and for that my dear Ky I am terribly sorry.” Ky looked so sad as Celene spoke and it made the empress feel even worse. She should have taken the time to explain everything to her faithful servant. "I'm sorry miss. I did not mean to make things more complicated for you." As Ky hunger her head, Celene caught the elf’s chin with her finger tip. ”I shall take the complications, I am just glad to have you at my side once again.”
Celene watched as Ky looked her clothing over. She truly did look lovely, but here she would stick out like a sore thumb and that they couldn’t have. "My clothes miss? But...I look elegant like you, no?" With a nod and a smile she began to speak again. ”You do look lovely, but here in this place it doesn’t work. Out here we must blend in or we shall be found.” She gestured towards her plan dress which Ky would know well enough that it was a new garment and one not nearly as nice as her usual clothing. ”See how I am dressed, outside of the palace I am no one. If I am found out they will send me to my death in Orlais.” Celene knew that Ky was smart enough to put all of this together. No longer would they be able to always be at their best.
A sigh escaped her pale pink lips as she looked her friend over. It was good to have Ky here with her in Denerim. It would help greatly now that Alistair was gone. She actually had someone else to watch her back and help keep her safe. Although Ky looked to be a pampered servant, Celene knew better than that. Her servant had been the one to train her with a dagger and with a bow. Ky was lethal with a bow and her arrows rarely missed their target. Celene almost felt bad for anyone who dared mess with her now that she had her Ky back.

”I’m sorry I couldn’t say anything, there wasn’t any time. I had to leave immediately, and for that my dear Ky I am terribly sorry.”[/i] Ky had now felt ashamed. Why hadn’t she thought about the Empress’s feelings first. The only thing going through her head was how selfish she must look to someone as kind as the Empress. Many people looked upon Celene as a stuck up or cruel person, but Ky knew her love and kindness. If it were not for this woman, Ky would not be who she was today. As her head hung Celene took her finger and raised it. ”I shall take the complications, I am just glad to have you at my side once again.”[/i] Ky was elated to hear the love her Empress had for her. Ky may have been selfish in this recent endeavor, but she would make it up to Celene anyway she could.
”You do look lovely, but here in this place it doesn’t work. Out here we must blend in or we shall be found. See how I am dressed, outside of the palace I am no one. If I am found out they will send me to my death in Orlais.”[/b] Ky looked over the Empress’s clothing. Celene looked simple, especially compared to her normal attire. It was now all too obvious to her that they would not be able to enjoy themselves the way they used to. Their old life was now gone, and they would have to comply too what they rest of the world wanted them to be. They were hiding, running, and barely important. Ky was worried for the two of them, but she also knew that she was deadly accurate with a bow and Celene was terribly proficient with her daggers. Together they should be able to take care of themselves. As a matter of fact, they should be able to launch some sort of plan against the enemy.
”Exuse me milady? But have you thought about how to deal with the enemy? Ky had been a good spy and tactician in the past when it came to helping Celene around the palace.

Celene’s pale blue eyes caught Ky’s happiness easily. She knew that her faithful and most trusted servant was just happy to be at her side once again. They had basically grown up together and Celene was just as jubilant to see the elf. She watched with a slight smile as Ky realized that their nights of lavish parties and beautiful gowns were coming to a halt. When they were in Celene’s estate they could go back to wearing their beautiful clothing but here on the streets the simpler the better.
”Excuse me milady? But have you thought about how to deal with the enemy? “ A smirk crossed Celene’s lips as she thought a moment. She had a few ideas but none of them had been possibly until now. ”Dear Ky, you have been needed here far more than you know. I believe you remember to spy yes? People here plot, and with their King gone they shall be plotting very much. I need you to be my ears.” She left the rest to go unspoken. Ky was smart and nothing needed to be spelled out. She would know what the Empress wanted. People here had been uneasy with the King, and Celene had a feeling Alistair was going to be their next target.
Celene couldn’t allow this to happen; she needed to stop it before it began. She loved him, and she couldn’t allow any of these Fereldens to kill him. Secretly she hoped to find proof that Anora was in on all of this. With the Queen gone, her life would be so much easier. Her blue eyes flashed brightly as she winked at Ky. {b]”Words whispered are lovely, but facts on paper is better” [/b] Her words would sound like nonsense to anyone nearby, but Ky would understand that she needed absolute proof depending on who was caught doing what. ”Dear Ky, you have been needed here far more than you know. I believe you remember to spy yes? People here plot, and with their King gone they shall be plotting very much. I need you to be my ears.”[/i]
Ky knew exactly what Celene wanted. Ky could easily spy on the people around this area. No one would notice her, and if she ever got caught, no one would be able to simply figure out who she was. Celene would have a clear advantage in using her. Of course, Ky would be more than willing to offer her service to Celene. Ky was a technical runaway servant, and if she went back to Orlais, there is no telling what Gespard de Chalons would do to her. She was afraid of the whole situation. Now that Celene was on the run, it was as if Ky was nothing. ”Very good Milady! And no one around here will know me if I get caught!” Ky said with enthusiasm and a very thick Orlesian accent. It would be obvious where she was from, but there would be no real evidence of their connection. Not right away at least.
“Words whispered are lovely, but facts on paper is better”[/i] Celene continued. Ky was aware of what she meant, but was not sure how she would get that. It was going to be hard enough for Ky to get the information needed, let alone be able to snag a vital piece of information. The most she thought she could do was find out enough to help Celene prevent any future happenings. She was not a professional and there was a high risk possibility in what was about to happen. Ky was about to mention something to Celene but decided that it would be best not to worry her. It was nice just being in the reunion. If Ky didn’t come back….. well they would have to wait and see for that.

Celene watched as the thoughts ran through Ky’s mind. Of course she didn’t know exactly what her faithful companion was thinking but she had a good idea as to a few thoughts that were currently being processed. ”Very good Milady! And no one around here will know me if I get caught!” Celene’s lips parted in a wicked smile, one she had trademarked as a young girl looking to get into trouble. Ky was right; no one here had seen her around with anyone of a title. As far as the Fereldens’ knew Ky was just a travelling elf, and Celene was going to keep it that way. If she could keep Ky hidden then it would be easy to gather knowledge without anyone knowing she was the one who knew it.
Celene knew that asking for proof would be difficult. It wasn’t like people were just going to leave important documents lying around at a time like this, but she knew that if anyone could find out what was necessary it would be Ky. Sadly this mission was a dangerous one, and Celene was worried. She hated to put Ky in such a dangerous situation but there was nothing else she could do. No one in these lands could be trusted, not while Alistair was gone with the Wardens.
”Be wary Ky. I ask something great of you. I am sorry to do so, but I have no other choice.” The guilt and fear showed easily on her face, though none could see it but Ky. She hated to think of her friend coming to harm but there really was no other way. If Ky was careful then maybe she would remain safe. Celene had to hold onto that thought or she was afraid that she would change her mind.

”Be wary Ky. I ask something great of you. I am sorry to do so, but I have no other choice.”[/i] Ky could see the worry in her Empresses eyes. She, herself was not without worry. This was going to be a dangerous mission and she hoped it would work out well. The worse thing that could happen, in her mind, was not getting anything of use for the empress. Otherwise Ky was just sad at the thought of never seeing Celene again. She had never had a real life of her own, but Celene made it feel like a full life. To think that there was so much she had never done made her depressed, but she only had one real goal in life. As she grew up that was made apparent to her, and when she got older she truly understood it. As long as her Empress Celene was safe and happy so was Ky. She had need for drink, or men, or love from any other beings. The only thing really important to her was the beloved lady in front of her. There was only one kind of love, and it was an honorable dedication. ”Dear Celene, I will make sure you get information no matter what. I cannot promise a great outcome with this mission, but I do promise something and I will not go back on it. If I have to crawl back to you and give you information with my last breath I will. Goodbye and keep safe until I come back.” Ky smiled and gave Celene a great big hug. Now it was time for her to leave and she could not bring herself to look back at Celene. It was now going to be imperative to take the chance she was given and get as much information as she could. ------------------------------- See Planning Lives for more
