Still has his family heirloom amulet, though he doesn't wear it often as it's made for formal events.
CHARACTERISTICS
Appearance: "Wouldn't want to meet that guy in a dark alley" would probably be a phrase fairly used with some accuracy, and he would not contest it but he's no brutish thug nor does he look like one. For one, the demeanor is all wrong; he certainly carries all the hardware necessary to inflict a nightmarish death, and the necessary proficiency in their use, but his posture almost never suggests he's considering such a course of action (unless it's Darkspawn or he's royally pissed off) and he's all wit, charisma and fun. Also, he's a man of style. Maybe not high society style, but style all the same; he loves a good leather coat (sometimes a trenchcoat-like coat), and he often tends toward black and grey but can do multiple dark colors. He's even theoretically capable of cutting what some might term a "rogue-ish figure", because he cleans up pretty well when it comes to formal events. But then, he'd be more comfortable at a tavern card game even if he were welcome amidst high society types, so he's usually content with the somewhat typical Grey Warden "just stepped off the battlefield" look.
Personality: (A small look into Nihlus' personality, though the rest will come when rping.)
Nihlus likes to have fun, plain and simple. When he isn’t drunk, he usually wishes he was. He likes to smoke, whether in a pipe, or rolled up and lit, and he is rarely without the means.
More often than not, his smart mouth gets him into trouble, but his natural charm and wit usually seem to get him out of it fairly unscathed. It’s wonder he is even still alive…
HISTORY
Nihlus was born in a little no-name village. He spent a happy enough life in the village until he was 20 years old. That all changed when the Fifth Blight began. His family attempt to flee to Denerim. But met a band of Darkspawn who killed everyone save Nihlus. As they were just about to kill him, he was saved by a small group of Grey Wardens. They took him to Lothering and to the chantry and left thereafter.
Nihlus found no peace in the chantry. Having just witness his family and friends death, his already fragile faith in the Maker was completely destroyed. Despite the care of the Brothers and Sisters, he didn't show much notice toward them. He would then usually keep to himself.
After the battle of Ostagar, Nihlus witness the stragglers and refugees. Nihlus was filled with a sense of hopelessness when he heard all Wardens perished during the battle. Seeing no reason to stay in Lothering, he decided to leave the village.
On the road he met a band of bandits who first wanted to steal his family's heirloom amulet. However they took pity on him and took him in.
With a new family, he left to Val Royeaux to evade the Darkspawns. The group settle on the road to stop and steal from any merchant and travelers.
During the period of a few months, he learns the tricks of the trade and fightings skills from the bandits with surprising ease. Nilhus form a close relationship with the bandits and adopted them as his second family. However things eventually turn tragic once again. A group of Knights one day traveled on the road towards Val Royeaux. The accidently meeting the Knights the end result..wasn't pretty. It ended with the death of all the bandits and Nihlus was left alone once again.
The Knights believing he was a prisoner of the bandits, simply because of how he looked they took Nilus into the group. Although he at first hated the Knights for killing the bandits, he didn't want them to know he was one of the bandits and left with them.
It turns out that the Knight were returning from the Ferelden border and were among the reinforcement the Empress has sent for Ferelden. They were rejected because of Loghain's regency and his wild conspiracy theories.
Nihlus left with the knights to the better part of Val Royeaux and came under the service of a merchant lord. Two years Nilus spent as a servant for the merchant lord. Although he learned how to barter and trade, he was unfortunately treated horribly because of his heritage, his Ferelden heritage. Nihlus eventually gained the attention of Empress Celene's Knights when he bested a squire in a wood-stick duel because he insulted him, his heritage and his home.
Nihlus spent another five years as a squire for the Knight and learned the art of fighting redefined and smooth talking. Finally when he was about to attain knighthood and he was to become known as Ser Nihlus of Val Royeaux, the Grey Wardens recruited him when they were passing through Val Royeaux, believing him to strong willed enough to survive the Joining and an incredibly dangerous and brilliant asset to the Wardens.
He accepted, it was an honor higher than a Knight and they travelled back to Ferelden where he officially joined them, surviving the Joining and spending the next three years roaming Ferelden with the Wardens and now the Mage-Templar War has begun to fully fledge out.
He came to Denerim not long after Empress Celene came to Ferelden, seeking refuge from Orlais since it's been sieged, as sad as he was to hear that, he had bigger fish to fry. When word came from the Anderfels that the Wardens were having trouble and they went to King Alistair for help, he volunteered to join the Wardens that would be going to the Anderfels, seeing himself more useful to the Wardens than being stuck in the middle of the goddamn suicial war that Thedas has decided to plunge itself into.
