CHARACTERISTICS
Appearance: Sophie's hair falls long below her waist, blonde and curly, yet tame and kept neat. Her bright hair is paired with large blue eyes and pale skin. She tends to wear very little makeup and accessories, only keeping her hair partially pinned to the back, while the rest falls loose. She only stands at 5 feet and 4 inches, with a slender figure.
Personality: Sophie is just about as sweet on the inside as she looks on the outside. She's always been kind with everyone. Never daring to give an insult or upset anyone. She's always just wanted the best for everyone around her. Always willing to help someone else in need, and put someone else before herself.
She can be a bit shy at times, but this doesn't stop her from standing up for what she believes in and what she stands for. If she sees someone harm another, or do something she's completely against, she'll make sure the other knows. However, she also knows when to keep her mouth shut. This has been a bit of a downfall for her, though. While being a servant working under Gespard, she's let herself be pushed around and lowered to something less of a human.
Despite her strong dislike for the new Emperor, she knows she can't say a word about it. Mainly for fear that she'd have herself hanging from a noose if she did. Her fear has, at a lot of times, gotten in the way of doing things she's wanted; not making her the bravest of people. It has been something she's wanted to take control of, make herself stronger as a person.
HISTORY
Like many, many others in Orlais, Sophie's parents were nobles, Aurora and her father the Marquis of Val Chevin; loyal to the Empress Celene of the country. When they found out they were having a second baby, however, their lives changed forever. Like their first daughter, they wanted the very best for Sophie, and yet, they wanted the honor of being in good standing with the current Empress as well. Their younger brother, Acel, came into existence just 4 years after Sophie, and followed in his oldest sister's footsteps. Sophie's older sister, Viviane, was the golden child of the Estate and family name. She was all their parents wanted her to be. Spoiled and obedient, did everything she was told and never back talked. Acel was just like Viviane, agreeing to the life of a nobleman and being an heir to his father's seat. Though, Sophie would catch him once in a while playing "Soldier" in his bedroom. Sophie, on the other hand, was the opposite. She never loved the noble life, and hated her family more and more as she grew up around them. She disliked everything they did and what they believed in. All Sophie wanted was a normal life like many other little girls who grew up in small villages. A simple life. The parents, as well as her sister, saw her rebellious tendencies, but they would not give up. As their last resort, and with Aurora being so close with Celene, she promised to hand her daughter over as a servant girl for the Palace when she came old enough to do so at age 17. They hoped that her yeas as a maid would straighten up her act and teach her to be the noble young lady she was supposed to be.
And so she did. When Sophie neared the end of her childhood and adolescence, she was handed over to the Empress as a personal maid. To do whatever the Empress pleased and needed. She liked the job, nonetheless. She figured it an honor to not only work at the Palace, but to work under the Empress. Just like her parents, she adored the woman. Her views, however, did not change. She kept her mouth shut, knowing her place, but her views towards the noble life never changed. In fact, every passing day in the palace with the many nobles wandering the halls, just made her dislike it even more.
Until everything hit rock bottom. Celene was presumed dead and someone else took the throne: Gespard. Despite Sophie's disapproval of the change, she was told by her mother to keep her mouth shut tight and not say a word against it. With her parents alongside her, the three gave their oath of loyalty to the new Emperor. Sophie was confused whether it was genuine, or simple an act of fear; especially after seeing what the man had done to the others.
Including Camon, her husband to be. She had known him for a long time, even before he joined the Orlesian Army. They even had a marriage arranged, but all hope was lost and her love was gone, when the Emperor not only executed him, but his family. It killed her to know. It tore at her insides, literally fighting with herself as she forced herself not to say a word against it. If the Emperor knew she was loyal to Camen, he'd surely kill her and her family as well.
Her mother nearly nailed it into her skull to never defy the one sitting on the throne, especially one with the name of Gespard. They knew what the man was capable of, and wasn't afraid to do. The man was mad with power, and they were left to practically kiss his feet as they cowered in fear. It went against everything Sophie believed in, but she acted like the "good little girl" she was, just like all the other "quiet" and "shy" servant girls running around the Palace as they served him his tea.
