Ten days had passed since the coronation of the new Emperor, and still the Imperial Palace was celebrating by arranging the greatest banquets ever seen. From all corners of the Empire, the most loyal came to honour Emperor Gespard`s victory, who finally had got his revenge. In finest fashion the nobles were dressed, wearing decorated masks in all sorts of colours that represented their status and rank. Music and dance could be heard and seen inside, while those who remained on the sideline discussed between themselves, either plotting schemes, or admiring the sight of it all. Speeches and oaths of fealty had been sworn, and in the far end of the room sat Emperor Gespard with those friends and loved ones closest to his heart.
“Who is that woman?” Gespard asked his friend Philippe Laurent, while he drank wine and lot his gaze follow the blond female he had spotted among the crowd.
“That your Majesty is Sophie, one of your maids at this palace. She and her family once served the Empress, but renewed their vows at your court ten days ago. They are willing to do anything for you I`ve heard, and I am pretty sure she is too.” Philippe replied kindly to the Emperor, knowing what he had in mind, but said nothing about it.
“Anything you say? Hmm well, we will see about that. I want her summoned to my chamber tonight. Arrange it.” The Emperor commanded as he gave Philippe a serious look, with the wish to have some fun on the last night of his celebration, before he later would travel to foreign lands.
“Of course, your Majesty.” Philippe answered with a smile as he took his leave to speak with the woman on the Emperor`s behalf. As he reached her, he whispered that the Emperor had taken notice of her and that he wanted to see her later. Intently Gespard kept his gaze on them as they exchanged words, but eventually turned to the servant and ordered some more wine to be filled in his cup.
A few more hours passed, and as the Emperor grew tired and sick of all those who tried to seek his favour, he announced that the banquet was over and that he would retire to his quarter. With that done, he left with an escort of guards and servants, until he came to his room. There two guards was stationed outside and as the Emperor changed to his bed clothes, wearing only a white shirt, he dismissed the servants, laid down on the bed and waited. What traveled through his mind in the moment, was everything he had done over the years and what he planned to do, but for some reason, most likely because of the alcohol, he begun to grow sad.

Sophie loved the Palace, she really did. It was beautiful, and a part of her actually considered it home, but it was only some of the people inside it that soured her taste about the place. Despite her and her family swearing their oath just a several days ago, she still didn't care for that man that sat on the throne. The throne she believe truly belonged to Celene. She still remember her first day here 6 years ago. She was like a shaking, scared little rat. Being a servant for the Empress, she had a lot to live up to. This wasn't just any old servant job for a noble family, this was the the leader of the country. You make one mistake and it could mean your head. But her mother was close to the Empress as well, and Sophie quickly grew to like the woman. But Gespard? There was something about him that made her want to go crawl into a small hole. After what he did to Camon, she didn't know if she could ever truly forgive the man. Sure, it was his right as Emperor, but she didn't believe in the reason for him doing it. She could only wish that he was still here today. Sophie was practically running around the place with the rest of the girls as they tried to the make the celebrations as good as possible for not only the Emperor, but all of his guests. She had just finished serving some of them their wine, and was about to leave the large room when Phillipe, one of Gespard's friends, confronted her. At first she was confused, why would this man have interest in her? But it was what came next that confused her even more. He told her that the Emperor himself wished to see her later tonight, at his sleeping quarters. A cold chill ran down her spine as the thought sank in. She may have been a servant girl, but she also was not stupid. There were only a few things that a man with power could do with a maid in his bedroom. But all she could do was nod her head in obedience, with a smile and thank you, trying her hardest not to turn her head and look Gespard in the eyes. _____ Sophie finished drying the now clean dishes, placing the plates and glasses in their desired locations. Her hands trembled when she put away the last fork, knowing what would come next. She hadn't forgotten about the Emperor's wish, and knew that she'd need to go soon and get this over with. As she followed the corridors and approached the chamber, she could only hope that this little meeting was something completely different than what she feared. "The Emperor called for me," she said to the guards that stood watch outside of the door, before one nodded his head, stepped aside, and opened the door for her. Her knees trembled below her as she forced herself to walk forward and step inside the room ever so slightly before the door shut behind her. She kept her head down, like she always did, and didn't bother to look up at him as he laid on the bed. "Y-You called for me, your Grace?"

Staring at the ceiling while resting on the bed, Emperor Gespard barely noticed as the door opened. Thoughts about his life ran through his mind and it was certain that the drinks he had had that evening was getting to him as he grew more and more sad by thinking about all the things he had lost in life; a mother who had died in childbirth, a father assassinated, a family torn, and a childhood relinquished because of betrayal. Whatever he did, he could never bring back what he had lost in life, even though he believed he could gain satisfaction and peace with revenge. Empress Celene the usurper had ruined much of what could have been, and he would not rest until her head was on a plate. The people believed she was dead because of the rumours Gespard had spread, but in truth she was very much alive, and somewhere hiding in the big world.
Just as Gespard took a heavy sigh, he noticed a woman stand in front of him, it was the blond maiden he had seen earlier and here she was, ready to serve the new Emperor. It made him smile and quickly he sat up, looking over her with keen eyes, from top to bottom. “Ah, there you are. I am glad you came.” Gespard spoke kindly, noticing how nervous she was. Then as tried to stand up, he failed and fell drunken back at his place. It must have been an awkward sight to see the Emperor in such a way, and most would have felt embarrassed because of it, yet Gespard simply laughed and spoke. “Ha-ha seems like all the drinks have robbed me of the ability to stand tonight, oh well…”He smiled and paused, before he continued. “No need to be afraid mademoiselle, I am not dangerous. Come, please, sit down with me.” He said and offered her to sit down next to him on the bed, as he reached out his hand for her to grab.
“I hear you and your family once served my cousin, Celene the Usurper, but I have also heard that your family has sworn fealty to me, and that you are all willing to do anything for your new Emperor…is this true?” Gespard asked as he waited for her response, watching her with great curiosity and eager to get to know her. She was a fascinating woman, so sweet and innocent, who`s fruit was just waiting to be plucked, yet Gespard was not the man who forced himself on others, even though how tempting it could be.

Her mind was running a mile a minute, racking her brain over what he could possibly want. Even though she probably a good idea as to what it was, that friends of his made it pretty obvious in his tone and the expression on his face. She didn't get this kind of treatment when Celene was around. It was hardly surprising with a man like him in power. He looked at her as if he'd never even seen a woman before.
She kept her head down though, making sure not to look at him into the eyes. It was more of an obedience thing than anything. She was taught to do so to a person that was more "superior" than her. Was in control and had more power. It was a sign of submission to the Emperor, as if she wasn't "worthy". She, deep down, didn't think so, she only did it for her own good and for his. If it buttered him up and kept him happy, well, that was best for her and her family.
Sophie took note of his clumsy behavior. He stood up and fell drunkenly back to the bed. She could tell by quickly looking over at his eyes and face that he had probably had one too many drinks tonight. That couldn't be a good sign. She knew how people could get when they were drunk, especially a man like this. Would he try something without even realizing it?
Her cheeks blushed with red when he called her over to the bed. Oh no. This is how it started. They got you to the bed, tried to make their move, sweetened you up with sweet nothings, and then the next thing you know you're rolling in each others sweat.
She moved from her spot in front of the door as she slowly made her way over the side of the bed next to him, sitting herself down and staring at her hands in her lap. Only now did she realize how frail her hands looked. They were clean and well kept, but they looked as if they'd break in one touch from the man next to her.
Only the next words she caught were "Celene the Usurper". Everyone was calling her that now. It almost made her sick hearing it. It was so... demeaning and intimidating, as if she was one of the darkspawn. Like an Archdemon that had ravished the lands or something. She knew that was how they did things, but was it truly necessary? Even so, she nodded her head in response to his question. As much as she wanted to say something smart in response, she also didn't want to be killed tonight either. It wasn't on her schedule. "Yes, your Grace. It is an... honor to be your Servant. I'll be happy to do anything for you." Oh Maker, she nearly wanted to go throw-up after that. Why her? Why not Anastasia from down stairs? She was a beautiful girl, a wonderful maid! That long strawberry-blonde hair and plump lips was something a lot of men looked for in their women! Not Sophie's messy blonde hair and pale skin!

Seeing Sophie blush as he asked for her to come and sit made Gespard smile, such a sweet and kind woman, he thought, was she really a virgin? Or was she like most women of the court who had had their fun alongside their work hours. It made him curious, yet he remained silent as she studied her beauty. Patiently he waited and when she finally sat down next to him, his gaze turned to her hands before they went back to look at her face. She was nervous, that much he could tell, although she tried to stay calm in his presence. He had seen this before; it was not uncommon for a woman to feel this way towards him, still all he ever wanted was just some company, company because he felt lonely, because the world was cruel and its dangers wanted him dead, was one night of pleasure so much to ask?
Rumours about Gespard`s drunkenness was widespread within the palace, he did not become a kinder man because of it, quite the contrary, in fact he got worse. Sad it made him, but also rash in his decisions and cruel when refused. With keen eyes he watched the woman who sat beside him, and because of his personal desires his gaze was led down toward Sophie`s cleavage. Listening intently to her words, he smiled again and in response he answered. “I am glad to hear that the rumours about you and your family are true...at least those words seem more truthful than others.” Gespard spoke in appreciation as he grabbed her hand kindly with his, then as he held onto it, he rubbed his thumb slowly across, feeling her soft skin while his eyes stayed occupied elsewhere.
Carefully he laid his head down on her shoulder and with a heavy sigh he expressed. “Why is this world so cruel? Why does it rob us from our families and friends? Is this what the Maker intended for his children?” He asked a rhetorical question, feeling lonely even after all things he had achieved, growing a stronger hatred for Celene. As he sat himself up straight again, he turned his gaze back at Sophie`s face. Letting go of her hand, he moved his up to touch her cheek and neck, where he examined her features closer, and as he gently pushed her chin so that she would turn to look at him, he continued speaking. “Merci mademoiselle, for staying with me tonight.” He implied without asking if she wanted to stay or not. Then leaning forward, he rested his forehead on hers and with a grin on his face, he demanded. “Please…undress.”

Well, at least she was a good liar, but that could have just been because he was drunk. The alcohol certainly helped some in her favor. That much at least, but when he placed his hand on hers she knew what was coming. She flinched at his touch. His rough, strong skin against her frail, smooth skin. It was like needles; oil and water; fire and ice. She felt violated just by the feel of his thumb stroking hers. It wasn't wanted.
And then he laid his head on her shoulder. Maybe this was all he wanted? Maybe he just wanted someone to talk to? A confidant. It wasn't unheard of when someone was drunk. They could on for hours talking up a storm. /Their minds ran a mile a minute, one minute they'd be doing something, and the next they'd be onto something else.
She could feel the sadness in his voice. He was a sad drunk, overwhelmed with a sense of melancholy. He went on with ironic statements about how cruel the world was around him. She almost wanted to laugh in return, considering the type of man he was. All she could do was keep looking down at her lap, trying to avoid eye contact with his hand on hers. She glanced up at the door, imagining all the other woman on the other side, going on about their lives. Oh, how she wished she could be out there with them. Why did she have to respond to his request? What if she had just ignored it, and stayed down there? It's not like he'd remember, he was drunk off his rocker! He'd be passed out within the hour!
But then he let go. Raising his head off her shoulder, he placed a single finger under her chin before guiding it upwards. As much as she didn't want to, she now finally met with his eyes. Only now noticing the true intimidation in them. A shiver went down her spine as she looked into them, as if she was staring into one of the Old Gods themselves.
Even his next statement, made her freeze in place. She swore that her heart stopped beating and all the air in her lungs escaped. He...He wanted her to do what?! She feared that this was coming, but it was so sudden! Was he even done with his chatting? It's okay, he was drunk. He wouldn't be fast on his feet, nor did he truly understand what he was asking... Did he?
She immediately stood when she could finally gain the strength to support herself. "I-I'm sorry, you Majesty. I-I don't understand." If her cheeks weren't already red, they surely were now. As red as the lipstick on her lips!

Just as Gespard asked the question, Sophie suddenly stood up and what she said next came as a shock. She refused, the servant girl refused the Emperor`s demand? Who gave her the right to do such a thing, not obeying the Emperor was considered to be a grave offense. What an Outrage! Gespard thought to himself as anger begun to build up. Did she really think she could refuse him and get away with it? Quickly his gaze at her turned into a glare and in frustration he spoke. “You do what?” Almost spitting as he asked, showing obvious sign that he was not entirely sober due to too much alcohol.
“You dare to refuse the Emperor? How foolish girl, how very foolish!” Gespard raised his voice and with a sudden move, he grabbed Sophie`s hand and with force he pulled her at him. As soon she was close enough he begun to roam his hands across her body and without thinking, he acted only on desires as he tried to get her onto the bed. She was a fruit waiting to be plucked, and Gespard would pluck it, even if he had to use force.
Had he not become drunk that evening, then he would not have gone thus far as he did now. Normally he treated women with respect and if they said no, he followed their wishes. Truly he was not just a bad man as many thought, deep down he was kind, but because of the experiences he had gained over the years it had turned him into a somewhat cold person, and when alcohol interfered it only made his flaws more visible. A thing he could not control, something he did not wish to reveal, yet it was all unavoidable when he got to much.

Sophie nearly fell backwards with the Emperor's unexpected reaction. This man was even more drunk than she thought! She didn't even believe he fully comprehended what she had said as his reaction was a bit uncalled for, she thought. All she did was ask what he meant! Sure, maybe in her tone and actions she showed refusal, but this man was acting as if she had just personally insulted him.
At least it was over with. Her suspicions were confirmed already and he did the rest of the work for her. Now she wouldn't have to go through the dread of having to refuse him herself. Now all she had to worry about was what was coming next. And by his actions, she could guess.
He immediately stood up and grabbed her, pulling her against him. She tried to get away, she wanted to be free, but he wouldn't let her. His strength was no match for her. His hands roamed her body, caressing her curves and feeling every feature of her figure. It sickened her and scared her. This was wrong, this was all wrong. This wasn't supposed to happen, Not like this. She had never been with a man before. Had never known what it was like to have your body taken by another man. She always dreamed of it being a man she loved. A man she wanted to spend the rest of her life with. But this was not that man. By far.
He shoved her onto the bed, giving her a second or two away from his grasp, but it wasn't enough. He quickly returned to his position above her, tightly against her small body. She could feel her heart beat fast inside her chest, her blood pumping a mile a minute. She gasped for air as much as she could, trying to flail her hands about hoping that at least one would come into contact with him. Even if he was stronger, she wasn't going to give up.
And then it happened. Without another thought or even any recollection of what was happening, her right hand lifted up into the air and came down across the Emperor's face at full force. It was enough to make her stop, hearing the 'smack' resonate through her ears, and the tingling in her palm. The second he let go, she through herself to her feet, leaving the bed as quickly as she could, and escaped the room. Not even worrying about the guards still standing at the door.

With force Gespard held onto Sophie and even though she was reluctant and difficult to pin, he almost managed to succeed with his plans, had it not been for the sudden slap he got across the cheek. It came totally out of the blue and for a moment he froze, allowing the woman to slip out of his grasp. Then as he came back to senses, he realized what had just happened and in anger he stood up with the pants down. Turning around, he saw that she run for the door, which he in pursuit went, but halfway through the room he failed and stumbled, falling hard on the wooden floor. “Ahhh, come back here you!!” He shouted after her in agony and frustration, crawling on the floor to reach her before she fled the room.
As the door quickly opened, the guards were slow to react and before they could catch the scared servant, Gespard grew sad and decided to abandon his thought of getting her. “Wait!” He told the guards and paused, before he continued. “Let her leave…” The Emperor commanded and with a look of loneliness, his gaze fell upon Sophie for the last time, just as she turned and kept on running.
Cold and sad, Gespard curled up in a ball on the floor, with the bed sheets wrapped around him. The drunkenness had ruined everything, it had turned him into a bad man and it had made him scare of the woman he admired. In deep thoughts he laid there, thinking about life and other things, but seconds later shouted to Sophie. “And never come back here again! You`re not welcome here anymore!” He said and crawled over to sleep in the bed, where he eventually would turn sober again the next morning.
