The mansion was dark, dusty and almost looked as though no one lived there. There was messes everywhere and Cullen had to take great care in where he was stepping so he didn't accidentally break something valuable. You wouldn't even know it was day outside if you spent all your time in here.
Not that the home owner gave a shit or anything. The guy very rarely left he's master bedroom and up ahead that was the only light that was on. Cullen hated coming in here though knew full well someone had to.
As per usual, the note was sent to come via one of the Templar's doing the street rounds and Knight Commander Cullen had come at once. Not because it was his duty but because no one else would. The man was mad and often attacked people he didn't know and didn't trust. The Knight Commander was fine though. He knew how things went down that day. Knew that justice should be served.
Or something like that anyway.
“I have come.” Cullen called out ahead of himself to announce his presence. Again, not that it mattered.
He had to duck down to enter the room since the door was half covered by a series of ropes and ribbons that meant nothing to the Knight Commander and as he entered the room he noticed more dots were added to the huge wall-sized map of Thedas and Cullen wasn't surprised to see the owner of this house knelt in prayer in front of a huge mural of the Apostate Anders- Thadas' most wanted mage criminal.
He stood quietly and watched, just as he did often when he visited.
“Oh Blessed Andraste give me strength. Help me find the murderer who desecrated all that you stand for so that I may deliver the justice that must be given. May the Maker watch over me and see that this is done. I will avenge all who lost their lives and make sure all is well in this world.”
The man then opened his eyes and focused on the picture in front of him “You are a dead man, Anders. I will parade you through the streets dragged behind one of my best steeds. Andraste has shown me the light and I know where you are. I will bring the Templars to you and I will see Justice served.”
Cullen gave a cough, and the brown haired man turned quickly as though he had not expected to be disturbed and moved as though he'd committed some kind of crime
“Knight-Commander, I did not hear you come in. I know his location and he will not escape us”
Cullen gave a sigh and pinched the bridge of his nose as he looked down with closed eyes at the floor “Must we do this again? I'm not sending people with you. It's a waste of time.”
“A waste of time? How can you say that when you saw with your own eyes what that bastard did?!”
Cullen held a hand up to silence him and shook his head “Because you do not know his location, do you?”
Sebastian's face twisted from disbelief and the Commander's previous comment to one of anger “I was given a vision! A true vision!”
“Like the last?” Cullen asked softly
“I was one step behind. I missed him that time” Sebastian insisted firmly. “We are closing in.”
“He was never there.” Cullen continued in a calm manner, he knew speaking like this was futile but one day he hoped the prince would understand.
“I'm telling you, I have him and I WILL kill him.” Sebastian then began to collect his things, his bows, his daggers, his armour, maps. You name it he had it ready to eliminate his target.
Cullen didn't move a muscle but stood still as a statue while Sebastian rushed around him to get things done. Very evenly he asked “Where?”
“He's in Starkhaven, taking the piss because he can.” Sebastian responded and seemed to mean every single word. “Well I'll show him. I'll have his head on a spike at my own keep and all this Mage and Templar stuff will be over!”
Cullen once more gave a sigh then said “I have a ship waiting. Let's just get this over with. As far as the Templars know, I'm a commander who likes to get his hands dirty. They know full well I'll drop back to a Captain rank if anyone wants the position. Funnily enough, no one wants it.”
Cullen knew Sebastian wasn't listening so with one more sigh, he lead Sebastian to the edge of Kirkwall and then to Starkhaven. Being Knight-Commander in this day and age was pretty shit. No one could deny that.
