APPLICATION
I've come along way.
Who knew bath an Kinloch Hold that I would ever be in this position? Back then I was some screwed up young Templar, tortured by the very thing I was sworn to protect. It was all because of inexperience of course. They told be that when I returned to Val Royaux for my rehabilitation and they taught me better. I have to thank those mages who treated me so badly. Without them I would not have been able to fly so high as I have done. I would have still been in Ferelden doing Maker know's what to those poor people.
No. I wouldn't.
Because that circle doesn't exist and neither do all the others. I was there when that chain reaction begun and I cannot pretend I condemn it. Meredith's hold on Kirkwall became one of power not one of divine position. She forgot that our primary objective is to protect mages and those who surround them not to instantly throw them to the path of tranquility just because they are in possession of magic. There are plenty of Apostates who deserve tranquility but there are many who do not.
I am Knight Commander now and that choice now rests with me. I will not be like her but nor will I become a push-over and allow the whole of Thedas to become one huge Tavinter Imperium. My judgement WILL be just and final. I am not the Divine herself, I am merely a knight on her chessboard.
There must be order. But Order can only be achieved with peace. This is not some naive form of thinking but instead an intellectual one. The revolt happened because The Order's grip became too tight for them to breathe. We began treating them as prisoners and that is not their role at all. People have forgotten that we hold them for their own good but I am here to remind them.
Treat your mages well and the others will follow. Treat them like shit and you end up in the world we are in now.
I'm probably not the best person to be given the rank of Knight-Commander but be damned if I'm going to let them take it away. I am a shepherd and the mages are my sheep. It's about time we started acting like it. For all our sakes.

And with that, the crazed bitch attacked.
Her blast of flames were too strong for a regular mage, it just confirmed how much demonic influence she was under. He could silence her but it would have required too much concentration. He couldn't afford that when there were attacks coming from all sides.
He charged forwards and used the momentum from his run to charge the force behind his shield and knock her to the ground. It wouldn't do much and she'd soon be on her feet again but it gave him enough time to focus on a guard that was coming right for him.
He blocked the first blow with his shield but the guard was a little bit faster and managed to pull his sword in the way of Cullens'. With a growl, he punched out with the shield and thrust his sword low so it went in right through the stomach.
As he pulled the blade back he was caught by surprise when a Mabari's jaws latched onto his leg, just above the knee. He let out a yell of pain as it's teeth penetrated his armour then used the adrenaline to hack the wretched thing's head off. They should have brought back-up. This was going to be a tough fight.
"We've got our work cut out here!"
Movement was slow with his leg in the state it was which made him a target. These people knew how to fight, knew how to target a man's weakness once they found it. Well he wasn't going to make it easy for them.
With a growl, he finished off the last dog and made to go after another one of the guards but the arrival of the demons caused him reason to pause. That was exactly what they needed. More bloody things to kill. It was bad enough with just the guards but this new put them at an extreme disadvantage.
He had to ignore the mages and the demons for now and that was only because the rogue guard he was fighting was doing a good job at keeping him occupied.
Cullen had the slippery rogue guard against the wall, was just about to make his final blow when he disappeared in a puff of smoke but his presence was felt moments later in the form of a dagger to the back. With a roar so he could ignore the pain in his leg and the slight prick in his back, Cullen spun around and finished him off. "Cocky bastard." Cullen muttered then let the nearest demon come to him.
